I am passionate about the well-being and state of the South African Wildlife Industry, it plays a vital role in the tourism industry and is a key revenue driver attracting a large international tourist base and needs to be preserved in order to maintain and grow economic opportunities. South Africa has one of the richest biodiversity's in the world and needs to be looked after so that future generations can get to experience the unique and special places that we take for granted. This sums up the importance of conservation efforts in South Africa for me.

I currently still play for the Pretoria High School Old Boys cricket club where I regularly turnout on a Saturday and sport the nickname 'Nigel Thornberry'. I spent two separate occasions playing club cricket over in the United Kingdom. Living fairly close to Wolwespruit Mountain Bike Trail, I spend a fair amount of time enjoying the local trails. Outside of road and trail running I have interests in multiple different sports including golf and hiking. I look forward to running and raising funds for EWT's conservation efforts. Her research is currently focused on the African Wild Dog and is working in close conjunction with the Endangered Wildlife Trust to preserve these beautiful creatures. I met my girlfriend Pia Riddell, whilst joining the University of Pretoria Zoology Department's running club. The Rhino Peak Challenge offers an opportunity to run with a purpose. It has grounded me and opened a few unexpected doors thus far including new friendships and an unexpected relationship. Going through a retrenchment process at work coupled with other personal challenges, I found running as a way to shift my focus to living in the moment rather than thinking about the future. 2022 has been one of those years which I will one day look back on and be thankful for the experience, albeit it was one of the tougher ones from a mental perspective. It has become an integral part of my daily routine, and serves as a fantastic outlet after a long day of work. Running has become one of my favorite past times over the last few years.
